In India, donating blood is voluntary and unpaid, meaning you do not receive any monetary compensation for donating blood.
Legal Framework:
The National Blood Transfusion Services Act 2007 prohibits the sale or purchase of blood, and those found guilty can face penalties.
Voluntary and Non-Remunerated:
The National Blood Policy, adopted in 2002, emphasizes the importance of a voluntary and non-remunerated blood donation system.
What you can expect:
While you won't receive money, you may receive free refreshments and a mini health screening/blood tests as a blood donor.
Illegal Blood Market:
Despite the legal framework, there's an illegal blood market in India, fueled by factors like the lack of a central blood collection agency and taboos against exchanging blood with people of different castes. Its a high time to change that mind set. We together can definitely change it .
Importance of Voluntary Donations:
Voluntary blood donation is crucial for ensuring a safe and adequate blood supply, as it relies on people donating blood freely and without expectation of payment.
